Seals? Tappets? Are they having a laugh?
Good morning all,
After two and a half years of wonderfull motoring, my 159 1.9 JTDM has given me 3 weeks to forget. First, the clutch went whilst I was stuck in traffic in the outside lane of a busy dual carriageway (police had to move me!) - replaced along with dual mass flywheel and other bits and bobs at a cost of £1500. The car, for a few days prior, had been making a ticking noise under load, between 1500 to 2000 rpm but could still be heard all the way through the revs, and I had hoped that the clutch change would have sorted it - it didn't. I picked the car up from the garage and was dissapointed to find it still there.
The next day the noise got worse, then I lost power. The engine cut out as soon as the turbo kicked in, but I was able to 'limp' the car back to the garage for them to look at again. I was told it was the seals on the injector blowing, so they replaced them (and one injector that was fused and needed to be broken to be removed) - cost of £268. Whilst they were doing this, the courtesy car they lent me also broke down! Embarassingly it was the same AA man who came to my rescue.
So, picked the car up on Monday this week, noise was STILL there, so dropped it back round on Tuesday to make sure all was well. "Noisy tappets" I was reliably told, "it's fine". On Wednesday, I was driving into work when the turbo seemed to stop having any effect, I was struggling to pull away and ended up staying in second. I managed to get to the garage (next door to my office), where the car wouldn't even start.
The garage is an independent (but deal mostly with VW's though claim tobe able to sort anything) and I am starting to wonder if I should be taking it elsewhere....
Does anyone have an idea as to what is causing the noise/problem? Or what I could do next?
Many thanks in advance.
