A long trip: some figures..

Hi, I have just returned from a road trip to Copenhagen in my 159 1.9 diesel. 748 miles in one long day, via France, Belgium, Holland, Germany up to Denmark.
All motorway driving, some fast stretches some slow (French motorway surfaces good, Belgian terrible, Holland excellent, German poor, Danish great).
Average speed 65.5mph, diesel consumption 45.6mpg.
Diesel in Europe 10% cheaper than in UK.

When I arrived, not a trace of backache or numb bum - and the Alfa did not miss a beat. But I only saw one other 159 on the whole trip!!

blimey that's some trip for one day did you measure the consumption brim-to-brim or are you using the car computer's figure? i averaged just over 40mpg to the south of france and back last summer with 10 days' pootling about whilst there. i reckon i'd have got a similar figure to yours but it was packed to the rafters with camping kit and a mahoosive great roofbox up top

comfort-wise, yep - brilliant

I used the computer. I left Biggleswade in Bedfordshire at 05.45 AM, off the Channel tunnel 'Shuttle' at 09.15 Europe time, in Copenhagen at 7.30pm same day (Sat 29th Jan) (includes 40 minutes on a ferry between Puttgarden in North Germany to Roedby in Denmark)

159 JTDm

Great trip ...good returns on your Diesel MPG ... noticed myself on a smaller trip this weekend... approx 130milles non stop ...mixed , mostly good (and fast ) road ...got good MPG on my 1.9 JTDM ...computer reported average of 43.6mpg...seems the JTDM needs a long trip to get the really good MPG !! Most "normal" days I see low 30's if lucky !!!
