This forum is a great resource! Thank you.
I have a late 2007 159 and have had a similar problem since the beginning of the year, but it's intermittent. Sometimes it's a grinding noise/vibration through the steering wheel, other times a rubbing sound. Then there can be no sign of it at all. Have taken it in to my "local" Alfa service centre a couple of times and they didn't find anything until I booked it in for some work last week, when it happened to be playing up again.
Initially they thought it might be the rack or pump. I drew them to this and similar threads, and they now tell me there is an AR service bulletin recommending replacement of the reservoir bottle and to change the red for the green liquid. But they tell me AR will not meet the £119.34 + VAT cost. I've had the car from new, and it's always been serviced in the AR network, so I'm amazed that despite the (increasing) number of posts on the red liquid issue, none of the 4 (which also says a lot) AR service centres the car has been with has ever picked this up. And shame on AR for charging customers for their factory mistake.
