Nearly another 'is it Fri 13th threads..'
Had a tough meeting with a client this morning, only to get back to the car park to see my car had a puncture front offside.
Took nearly an hour struggling to get the duff wheel off and the mickey mouse space saver on
I called the dealer for advice as it I was concerned about the clearance of the brake calliper, seriously we're talking a gnat's doo da here, less than 1mm gap. He wasn't sure, but 'guess that's ok...' oh dear anyway they said they could sort it for me (I wasn't far)
Turned up..'sorry mate, can't fix that it's a bit close to the tyre wall.., you need a new one'
The tyre was fitted by them (2 x fronts, Accellaras) just before Xmas, so wasn't best pleased, but hey, didn't want to take risks.
They could fit a new on, monday for £180!!!!!!!
Told them I'd seen them at other dealers for around £100, but he wasn't having it. Got on the 'phone found a local indy that could do one for £110, but not until monday.
Made a few more calls, and had a recommendation of a place near home that specialises in trucks, retreads etc that 'might' be able to fix the tyre, so gave them a call.
Seems that very few places are able to do a 'major repair' as they don't have the right kit etc, including high pressure aches, but it's what they specialise in.
Anyway an hour later, and £18 I have a fully fixed tyre and I'm chuffed
I told them that I'd rather be safe, wouldn't take a risk on dodgy repair etc, so they did explain how it works (they use them on big wagons etc) but apparently they're well known.
The hole was on the flat area, but the dealer wouldn't touch it because the patch 'just' met the wall.
I trust them, because they had the right tyre on the shelf, and would change it for £110, so I'm guessing that as they could have got another £90 from me (I'd have paid it) they know what they're doing
