I have a Brera 3.2 with 18k on the clock, 58 plate. I've had it for a total of 3 weeks. Everything is great on it. Last wednesday i started her up as usuall and walked around the back of the car to put all my gear in the boot and noticed a smoke from the exhausts. Thinking it was just the normal condensation/steam type i just drove off. Got about 15 miles and it felt underpowered and was struggling to get past 4000 revs. (it felt like i was driving with the handbrake on) i pulled over got out and the car stunk. It's a familiar smell of burning oil, no oil leak is visible.
The smoke out the exhausts had got considerably worse that when i set off, and has a strange blue/purple tone to it. I give it a rev (full throttle) and it struggled to get to the redline when free revving. It was also climbing revs un evenly, i.e would suddenly jump up in revs then slow down when under full throttle.
I took the oil cap off and had a look inside and to be honest i didnt know what i was looking for so put it back on.
I decided to have it towed back to my house as to not cause anymore damage to the engine. It's currently still at alfa and i'm awaiting for a phonecall some time early next week. The head mechanic told me that not everything is warranty covered as to do with the engine!!!
So that's whats wrong with the car, now some questions...
Is he correct in saying not everything is covered by standard warranty?
What is likely the problem?
If it is not under warranty what costs will i have worst case scenario just so i know in advance?
