Main reason why I was looking at the 9-3 was because I had a long line of Saabs prior to this, my first Alfa. The last one I had, a 2003 9-3 2.0t, was a let down as well. Fixture and trim was poor, as was the build quality on all the car, other than the engine which was a peach!
Agree that the current 9-3 doesn't feel or look anywhere near as good as the current Ti, part of the reason for going for a Ti, well, if I could find one!
The 2.4 sounds great, has great driveablity in 210 form, and with a EGR/DPF delete or decent remap would be a cracker. I'm just a little worried about the town driving I do killing any form of economy. I commute 11 miles to work across Birmingham each day, then 11 back. This gives me mid to late 30s in the 1.9, I know this would be a lot less in the 2.4.
After an Angel remap mine has got better and better on economy and performance. I am averaging early 40s out of a tank, and easily seeing 50+ on a motorway run, even at "normal" motorway speeds.
Also, as a unit it has a pretty decent track record for reliability, emission systems aside!
Will keep looking, and may, may fall for a well specced, priced 2.4, but it would have to be a great deal.
