Is there any damage that can occur by replacing the cambelt at 90k

Me again! I know from alfa workshop that i'm guessing the cambelt change on the 2.4 jtd is 90k (due to the 500 price tag)

But in the case of the 156 they think that service interval for the cambelt is too long and should be done at 60k. Is this the case with the 159?

I believe it is the case.

I've read that it is very risky to leave it as long as 90k and 60-70k should be more like it.

I don't think its the belts as such, I think its more to do with the water pump, tensioners etc. Personally I wouldn't risk it.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to put me straight on that.

Alfa official guidance is for the 90K intervals on the cam belts for the dervs.
But most indies suggest a 72K interval for the cam belts.

I had mine done at 72K to be on the safe side. Also had the water pump done as my car is an 07 car, the water pump was of the older design with plastic bits and bobs in it. This was replaced while the belt was off for the more up to date version.
My indie suggested that the water pump can throw the plastic bits out and either seize the bearings or throw the belt, either way it won't be cheap or pretty.
So the belt and pump were done to keep me breathing and sleeping easier. Some run theirs to the full 90K, as do most fleet vehicles. Not worth the risk in my eyes.
And the beauty is that the 90K service due in a few weeks will only be 140 rather than the 550 I paid for the 72K! Gulp...

Moved over to the dark side

And loving it

the last indy i used recommended changing the belt and waterpump WAY before the recommended 90k.. to reiterate previous posts its the waterpump and nit the belt that is the weak link here but it makes economic sense to replace the belt while your doing the pump.

I will be having the 72k service with belt / pump change in a couple of months
