MPG on the 2.2 isn't amazing.
30 average on motorways and nearer 25 combined.
I found the MPG improves if you use cruise control for the majority of mway cruising.
The 2.2's character changes dramatically with some miles on the clock, far more responsive, better noise and so on.
On the other hand there is the 2.4, which I admit to dismissing based on all the problems people seemed to be having with them (dpf e.t.c e.t.c) , then taking into account the 2.2 running a chain, stronger reliability, cheaper cost of fuel e.t.c. The difference in running costs were marginal for me and I maintained the petrol noise!
