Alfa Romeo 159

Shutting down my 159

I've just parked my Alfa 159 2.2 JTS after a long drive and switched off the engine and there's still a large sounding motor running near the rear wheels. This happened before a few months ago (although I didn't realise it at the time) and it ended up with the battery dying and the alarm going off. I've absolutely no idea of what the motor that's running is, or of how to shut it off. I've not activated the alarm but am keen to avoid having to jump start the car tomorrow! (the last time it was fine after doing this). If anyone sees this post soon and have any idea what's going on can they give me an idea? It's pretty late!
