I have just been up to Veloces in North London, and before I say anything else I want to say how helpful and friendly they were. They let me take out several cars back to back to really get a feel for things which was so helpful for me. They picked me up from the tube station, and even took me back again. I have read mixed reviews about them on here, but from me they get a big thumbs up!
I started with a v6 q4 159, and to be honest I was really unimpressed. The low down torque was great, and it was very easy to drive, but it did not feel fast, and there was very little sound from the engine - it just did not live up to my expectations.
Then I went on to a TI 2.4. When off the turbo there is zero power which caught me out once or twice. BUT: when I put my foot down when i was in the correct rev band the surge of power was amazing, and at the top of the rev range there is an amazing rasping note. I NEVER thought i would say this about a diesel, but I could not stop smiling, and it sounded SO much better than the 3.2 v6!!!
I then gave the v6 another go, but was still left feeling disappointed.
Finally I tried a GT v6 and I could not stop smiling the whole time! The driver experience is spot on for me and the sound is fantastic. One thing that really was noticeable coming from a 159 is that the gearbox is so much slicker in a GT. However also coming from a 159 the GT is a noticeably older car with much less in the way of toys (e.g. electric seats) and pretty miserable rear visibility, and almost unusable rear seats.
So, my question:
Is there any way to make a v6 159 feel like a v6 GT? Mainly in terms of making it feel as fast: so things such as responsiveness, engine note, power surge and road feedback?
Otherwise, without a second thought, I will be on the lookout for a 159TI 2.4 jtdm Q4 in black!
