Looking for used 159

At the weekend I have arranged to test drive a 2.4 JTDm 159, and have spent a bit of time on the web looking for typical issues and things to watchout for.

The car I'm looking at is on 06 plate so presumably one of the first, I wonder if this means more likely to have issues? It does seem to be the pick of the bunch in my price range on autotrader in so far as you can tell from the ads. Its done 40K, one private owner and has been serviced annually, which I'm taking as a sign of a well looked after car.

Possible issues I've come across:

excessive tyre wear on the inside
power steering pump/valve whining
Creaks from badly fitting windscreen
knocks from suspension on full lock
Flat spots in acceleration/power delivery

and four recalls to check - one is roof bars, presumably sportwagons only?

Also, this will be my first diesel, so is there anything generic for diesels I should look for (I ont want to make an idiot of myself by saying the engine sounds funny!)

Any advice appreciated

Sounds like you've already researched this pretty well.

power steering pump/valve whining. make sure it has the correct fluid. but early failure of rack does seem to be a bit of a 159 problem

Creaks from badly fitting windscreen. easy DIY cure with silcone spray.

knocks from suspension on full lock. never heard of this on a 159?

Flat spots in acceleration/power delivery. the cloggy DPF you mean? This seems to be the main problem affecting the 159 2.4. A lot of owners seem to remove it (and get a remap too).
If I was you I would allow a little in your budget to get these things sorted. That done, if the car seems otherwise fine, buy, enjoy!

Also budget 600 for dpf removal and 260 bhp re-map.
