the brera is great and i never need the back seats so why am i attracted to the giulietta? what does bother me is what my brera is worth,i wont buy new as its my own money! so nearly new is the only way.if i get a silly low figure for the brera i wont change anyway.

I second that!

I´m starting to think the Giulietta is a fine car, but it will always be in the golf class. If, as we all hope, the sales go well, it will also become a fairly common car. Which the Brera never, ever will be

May we hope for a Giulietta GT? I know the planned future, but it has changed before.

The G QV drives better (it's great) IMHO but is very sterile in terms of power delivery & sound.

Then there are the interior plastics which whilst fine on an entry level car don't cut it for something costing £25k basic.

It's also pretty anonymous, lost in a sea of Astra's an the likes.

The Brera is special, unique and distinctive and the interior quality is spot on.

Again, the 1750 version lack any Aural involvement. The 2.2 is fun when run in and the 3.2 is stonking if you own a petrol station:lol:

If you need practicality, go for a 159Ti:cool:

So, in summary, the G QV drives better & is more practical if you need rear seats.

Other than that, yes, IMHO, you're mad;)

Keep the Brera, Guilietta's might drive better but they are ugly and as Simon said very anonymous on the road with every other pedestrian conscious bug eyed euro box looking very similar.

Well the question has to be why are you thinking of changing, I mean really deep down, what are you really feeling? Something is making you curious enough to consider it but these are two very different cars aimed at and appealing to very different market sectors. If you are happy enough with the Brera to consider keeping it I cant see you being happy with a (relatively) mass market family hatchback - unless your needs have changed.

So I'd say, go with your instincts - all you will get off here are two entrenched viewpoints - it's what you want that matters.

For the record - 5 weeks ownership, 1100 miles, nothing broken and no rattles, at all.

Let's not be unfair to the G. I love the GQV as a driving machine and in isolation or compared against the opposition, the interior stands up well (certainly as nice as the Golf GTi but a whole load more interesting).

But compared to a Brera the interior is not a classy in terms of material quality or build.

Saying that, the later post 08 model Brera's have been cheapened with the plastic door & dash inserts:tut:

I like the Giulietta, I really do, and a petrol engine that's as economical as a diesel, the cloverleaf has some grunt.
It's a pretty car too, and nice to drive (only drove the 1.4 veloce and that was great)

BUT.... it ain't as pretty as a Brera and soon I would argue that it won't be as rare, that's for sure

Hate to say it but be prepared for a shock. My low mileage 2.2TI got ridiculously PX quotes from every alfa dealer i went near. Ridiculously enough the only decent offers i got was from non alfa dealerships (i.e for a non Alfa) Made me decide to keep mine a little longer till i can stand the alfa romeo wallet enduced pain

I have just had to make the same choice. The contract's up on my Brera and I now need a 4 door car. I test drove a 1.4 170bhp Giulietta and was mightily impressed by the drive (and I like the looks) Unfortunately I could'nt fancy sitting in amongst the plastic and so have ordered (whisper it quietly) a Saab. Obviously it can't compete on looks but it's costing LESS a month on contract than a Giulietta. I've had 15 Alfas so it's going to be a strange 3 years but I'm bound to return to the light one day.

I looked at a Giulietta QV as well, for the money, it didnt feel as special as my old 159Ti and didnt really seem any faster, whilst having less standard equipment and had more trim rattles.

Also theres nowhere to put your left foot.

Felt it was a bit dingy inside too, though I dont really like that class of car, its neither fish nor flesh.

The demonstrators are all white and I dont think thats a good colour for it, so that didnt help either.

You have to keep the Brera. We all get a little "distracted" by new models, different brands from time to time, but you have to be strong. The Brera is a classic car. Nothing else like it out there. It is flawed yes, but a flawed diamond. Seriously consider getting some modifications done to it, it will then feel like a different car and will be better for it. Remap, DPF removal to 250bhp, change the suspension for something sportier, get a new exhuast etc etc. Nothing drastic, but enough to make it feel different. Spend £2k on keeping your Brera special rather than spend £2k on depreciation.

What he said!

I look at my Brera and find I just want a newer Brera.

Then I think about what getting a newer one would cost extra and what would I be getting?Especially as I like my colour and love my wheels.

So instead of getting a newer 1750 I'm going to save loads and get the DPF removed and it will feel like a new car...

Oh, and i'm no fan of the bug eyes of the Mito and Giulietta either.
