Which is superior for the 159?
Hello all. Title should read, which is the superior engine
I am looking around for a 159 after deciding this is the car I want to buy.
Mine is sold and just waiting for the deposit and exchange day.
Now the 159 would have to be a diesel for better economy and resale value, but my question is which engine is superior out of them for all round living with.
The 2.4 jtdm 200bhp is obviously more powerful but the fuel economy figures seem to be fairly disappointing, I could handle mpg in the low 40s for the extra power and 5 cylinders but it seems they dont even manage to get 40mpg.
Would I be better off buying a 1.9 jtdm and remapping it to around 180bhp with Alfa tune and deleting the DPF? Is this combination going to be up there with the performance of the 2.4 whilst still returning mid 40's on mpg?
Would a DPF delete on the 2.4 without a remap with a good way to improve MPG?
The insurance company said there would be no difference in costs on these engine choices.
Tax would be a little higher on the 2.4 I expect.
I have driven a 1.9 jtdm and it appeared smooth and capable if not all that rapid. Certainly felt a little sluggish against my Seat Leon 190bhp TDI, but felt more comfortable and refined and a nicer place to be.
Yet to drive a 2.4 but there is one nearby I test drive tomorrow.
Any thoughts are welcome.
