How to remove side mirror on Spider?

The driver's side mirror on my 2007 Spider appears to be loose; it 'rattles' on it's folding pivot.

My dealer told me the entire mirror will need to be replaced because something inside is 'broken' and this will cost £500 - yes, that's five hundred pounds!

Clearly before I even consider that I need to have a look myself, just to check if there's something inside that's glueable or otherwise generally botchable!

Does anyone know the procedure for removing the side mirror? There's something that looks like a removable panel on the 'fixed' part of the mirror (i.e. the bit that comes out of the car that the moving part is fixed to).

I just thought it was worth getting some advice before attempting this.
