I am just coming to the end of three years with my 159 2.4ti and whilst it's been fun I will not be sad to say Goodbye.
Firstly, without remapping and DPF removal average consumption has been about 32mpg. That's OK as I only do 12k a year in it and that does not break the bank, but it could, nay should have been better. (DON'T buy anything with the 200hp engine it was terrible! I had a Lusso that I sent back after a year)
Secondly is tyre wear. The inside edges of the first set of P Zero Nero's went bald around 14k which I am told was good. ARUK replaced them under warranty and I have stretched the second set to 31K by having the tracking set to neutral. Whilst this has shifted the wear to the inboard tread as against the sidewall I have just today ditched a perfectly good set of fronts due to the inboard third being down to bald. I have replaced them with Accellera tyres at £94 each and they seem better than the Pirelli's!
Paint is another issue. Frankly, in standard Black there is such a thin coat of paint that you are going to get many chips, especially on the bonnet. The leading edge of the rear wheel arches attract pitting from the front wheels. Alfa are going to have to address their paint issues when so much bad publicity is already starting over the MITO.
Lastly. Interior Trim. I have a 08 car that had the brushed aluminium trim around the dashboard, not the carbon striped variety. Whilst it looked OK it was so soft that anything falling on it or rubbing against it caused pitting or wear. I made the mistake of dropping the house keys on the area around the gear stick and it cost me £93 to replace that. Now, as the car comes off lease I am looking at a bill of over £200 to replace the upper trim around the ignition fob as my insurance company's security tag has pitted the area below the fob as it bounced around in the fist year. The leasing company want the panel replaced and I am arguing that the material is deficient and not fit for purpose. Alfa need to review interior wear and tear before deciding on new materials.
Don't get me wrong. I still look at it and think it's beautiful and in the early hours of the morning, going to work on a country road I enjoy my 159 in a way Mr Plod would not approve of but it's not a patch on the 175hp 2.4 Alfa 156.....
.....Now that was sex on wheels at 42mpg.
Go find one of those and really enjoy yourself.
Good luck to you all... With a heavy heart I'm off to Mercedes until Alfa wake up and smell the coffee.
