For what it's worth here's a little bit of prestige car dealer (30 years) experience, I have vehicles of all shapes and sizes and prices on my forecourt, as for mileage i have only this to say, many many customers still buy a car on the old adage that low mileage is the best mileage, and for some folk this will always be, nothing wrong with that, i sell many many cars every year with low mileage, but here's a little known thing, my own cars from Jaguar to Lexus, from Ford to Vauxhall, and now to Alfa Romeo have always been high mileage fleet or company vehicles, why? whenever we buy three or four year old cars with say 25 to 35 thousand miles on them it is usually a given that everything is coming to it's wear out stage, that can mean tyres, clutch, brakes, exhausts, etc etc: and that means spending more money on an already expensive low mileage car.
For me and with 30 years experience i always buy the higher mileage car if it's for my own or wife's use, company cars need to be used all day every day, anything they need they get with all fleet drivers having the usual aray of "Quick Fit" " "National Tyres" "Autocentre" fleet cards in their wallet, by 60,000 miles and three years (the usual turn around time for big companies) all the nasty niggles are usually well sorted, and by the time you get to 90,000 / 100,000 miles providing they have a comprehensive service history you are really going to save some serious money.
I dont want to annoy anyone on here but i reckon i have just picked up the cheapest 159 SW 1.9 JTD LUSSO in the country, why? because the 2007 1 company owner, Full Alfa History, black with tan leather beast had done 90,000 miles, have just returned from the midlands (from where we purchased it) and it runs as sweet as can be, no lights on the dshboard, no EGR problems (as yet) no black smoke or dodgy starting, just a superb SW that looks as if the only occupant has been the driver, my only gripe as many of you will have seen is the fact it didnt have aluminium roof rails, and call me stupid but that is the one thing that bothers me more than any mileage ever will !!!! Good hunting to all of you and dont be frightened by higher mileage, if it looks a genuine car with genuine history and ownership, then it probably will be, oh, and most importantly it will be blooming cheap !!!! Merry Christmas
