random unlocking...whilst driving!?

Morning all....got a rather curious problem with my 159SW.

I've set it up to auto-lock the doors when you drive off, which is fine. But increasingly the car randomly unlocks the doors.

I could be 5 mins into a journey or 2 hrs; other times you can drive 4 hrs without it happening!

Sometimes relocking with the consol button works, other times it won't relock or re-opens a couple of miles down the road!

It was happening in the damp this morning, but also happens in the dry!

Opening and slamming close the driverís door maybe helps, but no real correlation!

On one occasion recently pulling the drivers release handle failed to unlock any of the other doors.

Another occasion recently all the doors unlocked except the near side rear, when I had to blip the remote again to get my baby lad out!!

Clearly a gremlino lurking somewhere...?

Dealers have no idea, I'm wondering if there is some kind of switch problem in the (drivers??) door, or damp getting into something.

Any ideas? (not keen on them dismantling the car on a wild goose chase!)

Do your lights flash, doors fall off, whizz bangs go off and your bow-tie twirl round when all this happens? If so, you have a Clown car.

Definitely sounds like an electrical fault - is the car still under warranty? Or try an Auto-electrical specialist. Shouldn't be too hard to trace if the dealer can be bothered. I agree that the first place to look might be the door switches for moisture penetration causing a short.

Good luck!

My 159 was randomly locking/unlocking.

Not sure if this'll help because you mentioned pulling the driver's door release handle not unlocking the doors, but...

The problem I had was caused by the lock button on the centre console sticking. A little wipe with a WD40-soaked cloth seems to have cured it (it hasn't happened for well over a year).

A cheap and easy check for you anyway.

Hope you manage to sort it.

Ah, sticky buttons - I had a problem with the hazard lights switch where it got stuck which was often embarrassing and on a couple of occasions bl00dy dangerous.
