We have just returned from a trip to the countryside with some friends. I took the 2.4 and it performed beautifully. What a wonderful car to drive on a long trip.
My only disappointment was that I averaged 8.9l/100km (31 mpg) on the 530km round trip. Admittedly we set off in morning rush-hour traffic during which the car did a DPF regen and we also returned in rush hour traffic.
We came back via a lovely scenic road with lots of twisty bits and very little traffic so our speeds were not that low!
Our friends were in an Audi A6 2.8 Quattro and they were surprised at how easily I kept on their tail on the trip (I wasn't
). Interestingly, looking at Carfolio.com, the two cars are very closely matched weightwise (1680 kg for the Audi vs 1630 kg for the 159) and powerwise (mine is the 200bhp version). They have an identical 0-100km/h time of 8.4 secs.
They of course had to stop and fill up during the trip whereas I could do the trip on one tank and still have roughly a 300km range.
The only technical problem I encountered was the occasional whining sound from the passenger's side of the car when the speeds through the corners got a bit elevated.
She had been spruced up for the trip with a wash and wax on the weekend.
All-in-all, a great trip in a terrific car.
