For background, this follows on from my previous drama: http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ce-please.html
I got the car back and went to the Lake district as planned. Everything went great, but I noticed a lot of annoying noises, some I knew about and had asked SGT to look at while they did the PAS (clunk from the rear) and some new ones (general rattly noises from the front and an ehxaust baffle/tinny type rattle at 1500rpm). I also thought there was still a bit of whine from the pas. So when I get back I wait until the car is cold and check the pas fluid to find out it's below the min mark
After a bit of research I find out the correct stuff to pick up from Halfords (it's called 'Central Hydraulic Fluid') and top it up. Sure enough the whine has gone away and after keeping an eye on it for the subsequent week or so the level hasn't budged. Looks like they didn't put enough fluid in
So not wanting to drag the car back to a garage, today I get the car up on ramps to figure out what the noises are......
Noises from the front:
- Virtually all of the undertray fixings are either missing or broken
- Front exhaust flex is broken and slightly leaking
Noise from the rear:
- The bolt holding the fuel tank strap on the passenger side rear is not done up
Given that I have just got the car back after some substantial work and a service I'm a bit annoyed.....(Not to mention the fact that I've only had it since 6th August and it should have been inspected thoroughly as an 'Approved' used car)
Doesn't anyone take care and pride in their work any more! I asked SGT to look at the clunk, clearly they didn't. They replaced the steering rack and fluid reservoir, did a 'full' service, and a substantial road test (based on the miles clocked up) and didn't report any issues with the car.
Right, that's the rant bit over
Now on to the serious bit. The undertray has been fixed back on with a couple of extra fittings which has made an incredible difference to the general cabin refinement. Will need to be done properly at some point to satisfy my perfectionist OCD. But I have a couple of questions
Does anyone any details about the exhaust system - is the flex part available as a separate section or is it complete with another part of the system (forgot to look as we spent virtually all our time trying to figure out the rear). Any idea on price?
The Fuel Tank? How the £%^$£% do you get to this bolt? It looks like you have to drop the rear diff assembly? Is this a big/expensive job or can a trained hand do it without too much bother?
Any advice on these (or other
) issues greatly appreciated. Also you're welcome to join my general commiseration and despair about the service provided by virtually every garage I've ever used.
