They remove & store the old map, load the new one, can read and clear fault codes and upload the original map for dealer visits if desired or re-install after dealers wipe maps
They also alow you to download any map updates.
Ever thought about providing a similar service Gus?
I sense a big gap in the market for us Alfa owners
We do do it for the older generation ecu's Simon, but all newer generation ecu's are getting harder to access and therefore very unstable whilst being written,.......I wouldn't like it on my concience if the ecu went dead while the owner was playing with it,as a matter of fact when you buy such devices from the manufacturer to load with modified files and sell, they come with-not a Toy-kind of thing health warning for the customer
As for bluefin for 2.2 ,are you sure your info is correct,I mean the 2.2 cannot be read through obd so the original can not be saved in any tool through obd,and extremely unstable to write through obd,so a bluefin or similar solution not possible.
As you have noticed I usualy keep away from threads that comment on such a tuning place on the net can remap my 1750tbi for £200.00, because a lot of these are just claims on a list to attract custom by making the list bigger, fact is new ecu,s are bstards to do and getting harder, therefore more expensive as we have to constantly spend thousands on new equipment and we take higher risks doing them.
Sorry for such a long winded reply, thought I take the oportunity to clarify few things.
