Sturgess of Leicester and my 159 2.4
Would be interested of anyone else's experience with Sturgess. Below is a copy of an email I've just shot off to Sturgess Alfa dealer in Leicester:
We brought our car in for an MOT. it had been serviced by you in June. With the MOT we received a report saying the car would need £1,200 worth of work: handbrake linkages and wiper linkages needed replacing, rear brakes seizing, a major oil leak and listed the new pads, fitted a few weeks before (by you) as 50% and 70% worn respectively. As we were interested in purchasing a Giulietta we asked for a trade-in quotation for our 159. We were offered £4,650 because of the major work that needed to be done and the saleman argued that oil leak could be from the turbo and it would need replacing at great expense.
A little dubious about the state of the car and the derisory offer from the salesman. I decided to take the car to an independent Alfa specialist, Interservices. I left the car with him for an hour and returned where he happily informed me he'd managed to save me £1,100 on your estimate! He informed that the handbrake was not correctly set which also caused the rear brakes to seize, the wiper linkages issue was in fact caused by a loose bolt and the "major" leak was in fact a hose clamp that had not been replaced - total to have him do this and an oil change.... £103!
I understand that you are there to make money but I'm a little disgusted by this level of partisanship. I honestly believed this kind of cowboy behaviour died out ten years ago. You live by your reputation!
