Had some bad news today
The head gasket has gone on my beloved 07 plate 2.4TI, the route of the problem started a month ago when after a fairly long journey the car suddenly overheated, pulled over and it appeared that some kind of bleed valve, what ever it was plastic as it was melted, you can see this in a metal pipe that is just below the engine cover on the left hand side.
I managed to get the car back to my local mechanic who looked into and phoned Alfa to see what the part was and they had no idea what it was, so we did our own repair as this seemed the best way froward. The car was fine for 2 weeks then it started to overheat and loose water, not from the repair. It appears that water is being forced out the water bottle under some back pressure. We done a head block test and it failed that so it appears I need the head gasket done.
To make matters slightly worse is that I did miss a service
due to some finacial problems but I am sure this head gasket failed when it overheated for the 1st time.
It has covered 61k and has not missed a beat in the 2 years I have had it.
I am going to do the cambelt + waterpump, been quoted £900
even more I guess from a main dealer I am sure.
I have been quoted that it will take 12 hours labour to do that and the engine has to come out.
Anyway any advice on what I should do? words of comfort?
Oh and the warranty ran out today.....
