These are my two reports that I've sent to Alfa.
I have examined the cracked roof on your Alfa Romeo Brera reg AT57 DDO and my findings are below.
The crack in the glass panel runs from where it is bonded to the screen frame and runs front to back for approx 1M then a further 40cm perpendicular to the original break (see image 082). Upon inspection the crack in the roof glass would appear to have started from a small imperfection on the leading edge of the of the glass (see image 079). This imperfection is possible a result of damage at the point of assembly but more likely a fault at panel manufacture.,
Simple body flex combined with of the afore mentioned imperfection would give a start point for the crack. This is further exacerbated by temperature changes due to the differences in co-efficients of linear expansion of the glass panel and metalwork of the body.
We have now carried out a full inspection of the glass panelled roof on your Alfa Romeo Brera registration
We can confirm that the glass panel is split from front to rear. There are no visible signs of the roof being struck by
any object and in our opinion this damage has been caused by the flexing of the body / roof. This could be due to
the panel not being properly bonded from new and will need replacing as soon as possible.
