Over the years I have found Warranty Wise to be a fairly reasonable warranty company, much better then the likes of Warranty Direct or Car Care Plan but I have to say I am blown away by a rejection I had last week and how utterly unreasonable they have been
Alfa 159 1750 TBI 2009 59 reg with 31k and the most impeccable service history possible.
We have maintained the car for its owner for the last 2 years and we have changed the engine oil every 5k and we have changed the gear oil at least once.
The guy has taken out their top level of cover (gold I think its called)
He came in last week saying he thinks he can hear a slight whine noise so I took the car out for a test drive and I said I thought it was the start of a gearbox issue so to stop driving the car and I contacted Warranty Wise, they did the usual "get the owners consent to strip and diagnose" we did and found the 6th gear bearing on his M32 gearbox was starting to fail. I phoned Warranty Wise and sent them an estimate, the guy on the phone said it would be a straight forward claim but due to the cost of the claim they would have to send out an engineer, fair enough I thought
Thursday the engineer comes out and guess what............"hello Ned how are you" I look at this guy and have absolutely no idea who he is, we have a chat and it turns out he bought a new imported Alfa GT from me back in 2007 so know I know my stuff when it comes to an Alfa. I show him the stripped gearbox and he agrees with me that the bearing is starting the fail and it is best and cheapest for the warranty company to deal with it now rather than letting it fail, all good me thinks, no
So this is what I got from Warranty Wise
Dear Mr xxxxxxxxxx
Since our last correspondence, I have now fully and thoroughly reviewed all the information you have
provided me with against the terms of your warranty. I am sorry to have to tell you, but on this occasion
your repairs are not covered by your plan.
The reason for the decline is your repairer has requested to replace the following
1) GEARBOX BEARINGS AND ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS
However the independent assessor is of the opinion the faults would have been evident of developing prior
to the plan inception. The plan does not include the failure of any part which an independent vehicle
examiner believes more than likely existed on or before your plan start date.
Please refer to page 12 appendix E4.1 within your plan booklet for full terms and conditions.
I know this is not the outcome you were looking for but I hope you understand the reasons behind the
decision and still see the value in your warranty.
