I would suggest that, as with all cars, check every single electrical feature. Windows, computer, lights etc... These might be annoying when they don't work, but usually cost the earth to repair/replace.
My 1.9jtdm now has over 80K miles, bought it second hand with 61K miles a year ago.
I had a niggle with the front top wishbone, but replaced under warranty, and issues with the air con. Put the system on full auto, then listen carefully for any "dry" sounds coming from the vent or behind the dash. This could mean he system is low on gas, and possibly a leak, as mine had.
Other than those two items I have been really impressed with my first Alfa ownership experience. A pretty solid and reliable car.
I got my wheel alignment done as soon as I put the 18" wheels on, even the 16" tyres showed signs of inner wear, so a must check really.
Hope you find a decent one!
