Does the Brera fuel gauge tell lies?

Does the Brera have an over sensitive fuel gauge?

The reason I ask, is I put 20 of V Power in the car last weekend, and to be honest it barely took the needle above the first notch. However after about 10 miles of driving, the damn thing has gone to empty again - right on the empty line!

It couldn't have drained 20 in 10 miles, regardless of sitting in SW London traffic for the 10 miles its done all week. I have been daring and got at least another 10 miles from it when it hits empty, then chickened out and refilled.

Is this common and how long have you gone on 'empty'?

The car is a 2.2.

Alfa Romeo Guilietta QV, white, fast, and lots of fun...
