I see your point.... but its the quality of the aftermarket design that I have issue with, having said that some of the stuff in the manufacturers accessories catalogue can be awful too! Also the "sporting" versions throughout history, in most cases, differentiates itself from the rest of the range with all the things you mentioned....
There is a classic case in Vauxhall with the VXR stuff, looks very aftermarket especially the early stuff and its because they saw the kids doing the aftermarket thing and tried to cash in.... and the result is often quite low end.... the more recent stuff is better but its still a bit "max power" in your face for me....
