159 air temperature problem

The air temperature (as shown on the dash display) is intermittently showing false readings.

Got in the car today and it was showing 30C with the car left in the sun, climate control came on full to cool the car down.

A little while later it dropped suddenly to 7C whereby the climate control decided it was now necessary to heat the cabin

It's possibly a loose connection or faulty sensor - can anybody tell me where the sensor is located.

Thanks, Mike.

The dash display shows the outside temperature.
The sensor is located under the left rear view mirror (at least in LHD cars). It is a small rounded protrusion, look for it.
The fault is most probably in it or in its circuit.
For the mean time, until you find a fix, set the climate control to low where it overrides this sensor's info.

Thanks found the external sensor, it's on the driver's mirror on RHD cars.

However, I now don't think it's at fault as both the internal and external sensor go-wrong at the same time. Yesterday with the cabin hot from the car sitting in the sun, the dash display showed 30C and the air-con came on. Shortly into the journey the dash display dropped to 7C and the air-con went off.

This morning, it was showing 3C and the car warned of 'possible ice on the road' and put the heater on!

In my mind, it's something more central causing both faults.

Any ideas?

As said it's the external sensor.

One fault.

If the A/C thinks ambient temp is 3 deg or below it cuts the compressor.
