Help !! Just bought a Brera and have a engine warning
I have just bought a 2006 Alfa Brera 2.4 JTD SV with 50,000 miles with full sevice history and just MOTed , Drove great for 1 hour then went into limp mode and an engine light went on. Drove it back to the dealer who is getting the car looked at and sent me the following email .
just to confirm our conversation yesterday. the car has been checked to confirm the Alfa Brera has a fault showing and relating only to the Intake Manifold Air Actuator. This is valve flaps in the rear manifold and will affect the air / fuel mixture so hence why the eng man. light comes on to save the car from being fully reved. The fault is saying they are not opening and closing fully.
This is a known fault on Alfa 1.9 /and 2.4 Diesels. The later cars have a modified part.
So the next stage is to remove part of the manifold assembly to check inside to see if it blocked, stuck etc. This should be done on monday. until then i woont know if fully cured. If need be we may need to keep the car to replace the unit if necessary but not sure how involved this is.
the cost for this will be fully sorted by us but will not have an update until monday pm / tuesday at the latest
thanks for being understanding"
He has the Car and I am due to pick it up once the issue has been sorted.
How worried should I be?? Is this a known issue ?
I dont wont to buy this car if this issue is going to lead to more problems.
Any help would be apreciated as Its a lot of money I cant afford if it goes wrong,
