3 weeks ago I got my Brera used from Palmers. I initially went there on a Sunday and saw Bradley and he was the only guy there. Took the car out for a test drive and liked it, but had a couple of issues I wanted fixed before buying the car. Went inside and talked about the deal and agreed that they would (a) service the car (b) touch up various stone chips/marks (the car is the notorious alfa red) - he took a list of particular areas of concern (c) fix a rattling piece of trim from behind the drivers head.
We then talked about finance. I already had a deal with my bank which was at a shocking 14.9% APR and told him this - he said that the could easily beat that and went to his pc and came back with a figure of 4.7% so I said great. Gave him all my details and went home. We agreed that the finance should be arranged in the morning and I could go back Monday night to sign the paperwork. As it's a 1h30min drive I would have to leave work early to get there in time so I'd need to know in advance, which he said was fine. I can pick up the car on Wednesday.
Monday comes and at lunchtime I get a call, 'i'm just putting the finance through and I need some more details' - so I supply these and am told it'll be about an hour. I call back about 3-30 - still waiting for the bank so I'll chase it up. Time passes where I can leave to get there so I'm resigned to get it another day. Finally get a call at 6, saying it's all done am I coming to sign!
So I go Tuesday to sign the paperwork. 'It's come through at a sightly higher rate...fumbles to find a number on the paperwork.....5%'. Ok, no worries. I skim the paperwork thoroughly bored and tired (of course I should've looked closely) - and sign. 'It's too late now to pick up on Wednesday, I'm not here Thursday so you'll have to come Friday. - what time' so I say it could be around this time, or I might take the day off and come down early. 'no problem, give me a call friday if you want to change'
Receive a call Friday morning 'not sure how it happened but the car registration date is wrong on the Finance - I'm going to email you a copy of the agreement I need you to sign page 3 and fax/email it back. When are you coming to pick it up?' I was hoping to come earlier 'no I'm on my own, I can only do 6. Maybe 5-30.'
Go down and pick the car up, bored and tired after the long drive so don't really look closely just take the keys hand over my 147 and run. 'It's been in the body shop but if they missed anything here's some touch up paint'
Driving home - trim still rattles. Creaking noise from rear suspension when you pull away from standstill. Next day look at the bodywork - not been touched. Look at the book - not been serviced. Look at the finance '5% per year - apr 11.9%!' plus a number of arrangement/settlement charges I wasn't told about.
Ring to complain - 'you knew the apr because You said it was cheaper than your bank', 'bring the car back and we will touch up the paint', 'we won't service the car because it's more than 3000 until due (3500)' 'i will speak to my manager and call you back' - I ask for information about the alarm for my insurance company - 'we have had this a lot on breras I will find out'.
Next day get a call back, 'we will service it at cost price when due, that's it' 'going to speak to ARUK about the alarm, will call you back tomorrow'
Was never called back. I rang ARUK who sent me a letter for the insurance company.
3-weeks later and the car has started leaking pas fluid from the steering rack, have had the car taken to a different dealer to be looked at. Will not be going back to palmers.
Basically, i feel like they were willing to do/say anything to get my money.
That was an essay......
