battery icon light wont go off on my 159

Alfa 159 1.9 lusso JTDM (56)

Hi everybody, last night when leaving work my battery icon light came on, on my beloved Alfa. Managed to start it this morning but several warning light flashed as well as the battery icon light coming back on. I managed to get to Kwik fit who informed me the battery was original and dying so I parted with cash for a new battery. Set off home and the battery icon light came on again and the mileage keeps flashing.
two questions -
Why as the battery light stayed on, could this mean I need a new alternator
How do I get the mileage to stop flashing.

Need this sorting as I now have concerns about leaving it at the airport while on holiday.
Apart from this I love my alfa!

I had the same proble, and it was the alternator. Complete replacement for €400. This is anacceptable for a 4 years old car with 40000KM.
