As a previous diesel hater, I have to say I am very chuffed with my 159 jtdm.
Apart from the clatter in the morning, or sat in traffic with the window down, it is cracking. Esp after a remap.
Bags of pulling power and reasonable economy.
£155 tax a year as well.
If only I could fool my ears into thinking it has a petrol rasp, I would be even happier!
I have had a number of Alfas, all with different capacity twinnys and a 1.9 petrol 159. The diesel engine seems to suit the 159 very well and it is only because we had a 1.9 JTDm 159 in Italy last year that I changed my 147 for it: I really liked the 159 but it felt underpowered with the 1.9 petrol engine and the word 'fuel' and 'economy' would not be used in the same sentance because it was so thirsty (17 mpg around town! - should have had a 3.2, I know). Anyway I went back to a 147 and was really enjoying it but when I had the 159 diesel in Italy it just felt so much more grown up: just as quick and I could go twice as far on a gallon. So on my return I found one and have loved every minute of it.
Whats odd is that I have had 147 &156 courtesy cars with the same engine and they just haven't felt as good - even the 120BHP Mito diesel doesn't quite feel as well matched as the 1.9JTDm & the 939 chassis.
....still there's only one way to find out....extended test drive! Good luck!
