So I'm in the market for a new Alfa (I must be a glutton for punishment!) when I bought the GT I tried the V6 Brera and wasn't hugely impressed. Nothing against the car really I just found the engine to be lacking sparkle - especially if compared to Alfas amazing, but sadly now discontinued, V6.
I know the Brera has been lightened and improved dynamically, but should I buy a V6 or wait for the 1750 235BHP TBi - which does sound like a very interesting engine!
Looking at your car collection, I think you may find both lacking sparkle as all modern cars are so much more insulated and civlised, whihc is nice when you just want to get somewhere, but not so big in that organic feel that older alfas have.
I don't think there's any significant lightening on Breras, it's more of a dampers and springs change that makes them feel that way (on the S).
If I could live with the fuel econmony and tax, I'd find myself a v6 S. When Auto Italia recently tested this against a GTV v6 and a GTV6, it faired really well in the excitement stakes. Was the one you drove an S? It's only an aural difference in the engine dept. but I have heard that it makes quite a difference.
In terms of outright usuable performance I would expect the tbi to be pretty much its equal, and in terms of economy it's going to be 50% better, but in terms of that special feeling you're after, I don't think so.
That's no help at all is it?
