On mine the clips are different for the main beam compared to the dipped beam. The dipped have little catches to clip the spring thing into whereas the main beam have springs that are always tensioned wherever you move them so you just have to flick them to each side of the bulb. I put the Halfords extreme brilliance (+90) in both dipped and main beam and they are noticeably better.
One thing I would recommend though is get a small mirror so that you can check what is going on in the back of the lamp unit.
Oh... reason why dipped is easier - because they are projector lamps and there is a big lense between the outside cover and the bulb, pushing the bulb further back into the car, whereas the bulb in the main beam is just behind that shield that you can see from the outside - much further 'in' to the lamp unit.
