Is the TI mpg worse than the Lusso mpg?
I have made brim to brim measurements over the last 10 tanks and I am now getting about 42 to 43mpg out of the 2.0 Lusso. The trip computer, in my case, appears to be 1mpg pessimistic.
I worked out the difference to mpg caused by the nominal tyre diameters comparing the TI tyres to the Lusso tyres (including the profiles) and it works out that the 19inch tyres would read about 0.45mpg worse than the standard Lusso tyres - but that doesn't account for the 4 or 5 mpg difference you are getting compared to me. It is also interesting that 159Bob is driving a Lusso and gets reasonable mpg; while I think you, Gmke, Dan and Blaine Uk, who also get poor mpg, are driving TI cars. I wonder if the TI tyres are very different in terms of rolling resistance or if they are set up with more toe in?
BTW, despite the red paint chipping, the wind noise from the passenger wheel arch and the occasional VDC knackered warnings, I do like my car. When you are really motoring it shifts dozy people out of the third lane like no other car I have possessed - it's probably a bit like having proper 'blues and twos' on the car. Plus even my car (without the TI tyres) still does hang on well in the bends.
I had the treble misfortune to hire a 1.4 Kia Rio on holiday, a 1.4 new Astra and then a 1.2 petrol Colt to drive back to Southampton from Stranraer and I can tell you that the Alfa is about 40 times better than the Kia (needed a big run to pass even a tractor in Ireland and which didn't have central locking!!!) and 3 times better than the Colt (sounded a bit like a noisy sewing machine at 5000rpm). But if you have to buy one of the two I would recommend the Colt any day. The Astra was also gutless but has the world's most annoying indicator stalks.
I drove the Colt 430 miles on A roads and then down M6, M42, M40, A34 and it managed 38mpg. So it gave me worse mpg than the Alfa in a smaller lighter car at about the same cruising speed.
