Just a quick initial opinion on my new Brera after driving it home on the M1, taking it on my commute to Solihull yesterday and to my Doctors this morning on some of my favourite roads.
Basically I'm smitten
The car is extremely planted and very agile. Perhaps those rumours of re-valved steering are true as it's very direct and crisp. The ride is great too (slightly harder than my Ti). Brakes are brilliant but still getting my PF's put on tomorrow.
Then there's the engine. It sounds great, even better than the Arese unit we have. This is probably down to the tunefull exhaust though.
The gearing is very long (except first which has a 6200rpm limit) so progress can be relaxed but it's deceptively fast and not at all manic like our GT. It's flexible and gutsy too; 30mph is sixth is easily done. "Economy" was 22mpg on the M1 home (56miles) but I bought it with my eyes very open and this isn't an issue for me.
The gearbox is so much better than the 2.2 unit. All changes are smooth and slick, even more so when warmed up. You can feel the rear bias in the drive train too.
The Poltrona Frau top spec leather and seats are brill. B & M transmits better too.
Negatives are a bit of wind noise from the passenger side, a bit of a creak from the rear hatch area and the front bumper on the passenger sides needs tweaking too as it's ever so slightly out of line. All sortable hopefully via one dealer visit
I'm not keen on those silver plastic inserts on the dash. Might look at getting them colour coded to the centre console.
The car needs a proper Simon clean as despite it's very low sub 3000 miles, it is 16 months old and has some swirls. I'll sort this easily enough though and enjoy it in the process
So, am I pleased I made the jump? Hell yes
