Well... I now understand why Alfa Romeo fare so badly in surveys like the JD Power Survey... :-(
After taking my car to the dealer (20 miles away) three times to get a noticable wind noise from the rear passenger window resolved (new door seal)... I was telephoned by Alfa Romeo as part of their customer service process.
I mentioned that I had also got a "whistling" from the front of the car when on the motorway... but since it was rarely heard at or below 70mph, there wasn't much the dealer could do... as they were not allowed to test the car above 70mph.
Shortly afterwards, I had a call from Alfa Romeo Customer Services, who seemed keen to get the problem sorted. They said to take the car to the dealer, so that they could test it themselves... although, I tried explaining that, unless they drove at over 70mph, they would not hear the problem...
I also explained that annecdotal evidence suggested that the problem could be caused by the mirrors... and that 'packing them', might be a possible solution. So, I asked that, if I were to take the car to the dealer, they would be able to do this... and test drive it if they want to... but not to just take it for the day (charging me for the insurance on their courtesy car) and then return it to me saying that they hadn't heard the "whistling"...
The case was referred to the "Technical Team"... and I was asked to send an email, which I did, outlining the problem in detail... along with the information (from this forum) that suggested possible causes / solutions.
But, all that came back was that I needed to let the dealer have a look... although, when I said that they could do this, if they came to collect the car / left me a courtesy car / didn't charge me to insure it, things stalled... as it was clear that I was expected to do all the running around.
They even suggested closing the case... but keeping it on file, in case I wanted to call them again about it...?
I found myself tempted to do as they ask... and let the dealer have a look... but I'll waste half a day taking the car to them / picking it back up... they'll charge me for the courtesy car... and they will not hear anything... so it really is pointless - and will just increase the frustration that is already there.
SO... my question is... does anyone have any information regarding the packing of the door mirrors that they can give me...?
If anyone has had a dealer do this for them... then even if it is just the details of that dealer, that would help.
I am wasting my time with Alfa Romeo's "Technical Team"...
Just a pointer in the right direction of how I can get a dealer to insert some of this "sound deadening material" into the door mirror would be great... really.
Then I can maybe get Alfa to look at the B&M microphone, which is HOPELESS... and they seem to have decided not to even address that one... even though I have mentioned it to them.
My girlfriend's 10 year old Audi A4 Avant gives less grief... and, yes, I know that there is much more soul in an Alfa... and I do love the car... but, cr*p like this does take the shine off it.
