Noisy new Brera
Hello everybody. I'd hoped to make my first post in the newbies forum to introduce myself but the no technical questions rule forced me into here for now.
I have a new (to me) Brera 2.4 JTDM with just over 7000 miles on the clock that is making me very happy when we're out on the road. I'd post some pictures, but the neighbours builders have done a good job of taking the shine off the showroom finish. I'll maybe have some after our first trip to France at the end of March.
The Alfa reputation for unreliability was beaten back by the beauty of the car in the showroom, but I was hoping to go a bit longer that I have before encountering issues. One thing is driving me mad and hopefully somebody on here will be able to help out so that I can get on with enjoying the Alfa experience.
When the car is started from cold it runs great but after about a mile of driving it starts making a very annoying noise. It's difficult to describe but it sounds like something metallic which should be spinning, but isn't properly. After another 1/2 mile or so it goes away and wont be heard again until starting from cold.
The car has been to the dealership this week but the noise doesn't last long enough for them to track it down and as it only does it when moving it's extremely difficult to pinpoint. The suggestion is to leave it and hope whatever makes the noise wears down (!) or wait until it gets worse. Neither option gives me a warm feeling.
I don't think it's related to throttle, clutch or break use because I've been playing with all three whilst the noise is happening and I cant make a connection between any pedal and the noise. But you don't hear it when the car is stationary, it has to be moving above about 10MPH although the noise doesn't get louder or harsher with higher speed.
Anybody had a similar problem? I've had a look through the forum and I can't find anything that sounds quite like this. The "Constant rubbing noise?" thread was the closest thing I could find but I don't think it's the same noise I'm hearing.
