I have just taken delivery of a new 159 1750 TBi Ti saloon in black... having had a BMW 325i SE Coupe for the last 3 years.
I have to say that I am not missing the 325i yet... as, although it was great to drive... the 159 is a fantastic place to be... and then there's the way it looks...
The 1750 engine is great... and although down about 20hp on the 325, the extra torque makes the car feel a lot more powerful on the move.
The spec is excellent... and I am not missing the rear wheel drive too much yet, either.
There are, however, a couple of areas that I wanted to ask the forum's view on... as I can't imagine that I am alone in having noticed them:
- The undertray of the car scrapes on nearly all speed humps (if you put the wheels either side of the hump). I followed a 159 2.4 down the same road yesterday... and he wasn't having the same problem... so I can only imagine the sports suspension is part of the problem. But, having looked under the car, the shape of the undertray on the 1750 is such that there is a bit in the middle that is lower than the rest of the undertray... and that extra 1-2 cm may be making all the difference. Has anyone else with a 1750 TBi Ti noticed this...?
- On the motorway there seems to be some wind noise from the B-pillar... which is most noticable if you turn your head to the right (so your ear points more directly to it...
). It isn't something 'bad' and not as if the window is slightly open or anything... and may just be how all of the cars are. But, having come from a coupe, with a B-pillar that is set a fair bit further back... it's not something I noticed previously. Is this something that all 159 saloons do...?
I apologise if these are questions that have been covered previously... although I did try to search the forum before posting the questions.
So, after covering 300 miles in the car... it's all looking good. I am hoping the Average MPG improves once it's run in... as I am down at around 24 mpg currently (even after a few longer runs).
In black it definitely looks it's best when kept clean... and I am looking forward to the next 3 years driving it.
Thanks very much for all your help.
