Time to get parts and carry out repair? To do properly wing and bumperwould need replacing so could be upwards of £4k repair plus providing a car for insuree and storage costs until parts delivered.
My bro had a lancia integrale years ago - After damage he was told it was up to him if he wanted repaired or written off but warned that if he wanted repaired he may have to wait upto 6 months on parts etc!
Category A - Vehicle must be crushed. All of it.
Category B - Vehicle may not be returned to road. Parts may be sold.
Category C - Repairable. Possibly structural damage. Cost of damage (at main dealer prices and labour rates) is more than book value of vehicle.
Category D - Repairable. Probably non-structural damage. May have been economic to repair, but insurer doesn't want to.
Category F - Damaged by fire.
Category X - Repairable. Minor Damage.
if its on V car, then you will never get a good insurance payout as they wont "over right" a car more than its value.
cat d can happen if its refused after a repair, you have a right to "not take back" your car after a repair that your not happy with, the car then becomes cat D, (after an insurance payout)
if your keeping the car for a few years it can be a good deal (right car/repair obviously)
Went for £10,650 - Bit of a buy for a 59 plate with 11k miles as the nearest comparable on Auto Trader is an 09 plate with 25k miles at £16995.
I know it will always be cat D but damage was so minor you did not even have to bother repairing - less than £1k could have easily seen it minted and been a great car for someone. I would have gone for it had I not just moved house and changed both our cars already in the past three months!
i was curious about this, and did a bit of "homework" it turns out that this was a stolen recovered car (insurance payed out) and had "several marks" all over the body work, needing a compleate respray, that combined with it being cat D i think it reached all its money.
the insurance company involved apparently had greif from the registered owner (whatever that means?)
and used the damage limitation clause.
all repaired and tickerty boo this car will cost the owner approx £13k, and still be on the register, so unless hes keeping it for a good few years its not worth it.
