Help 159 Key replacement

A few weeks ago I manage to break the top metal part of my 159 key. Actually it's not metal but plastic painted in a way it looks like metal. All the other parts are fine.

In the mean time I bought a new key from ebay. The only bit I need is that top part. But I need to take of the metal key from the broken top part and transplant it to the new one. Anyone knows how to take it out? There's a small metal cylinder that fits in it. Does it come out? Or it doesn't have anything to do with it?

159 Key

Looks like a small roll pin.

Not sure how you would get that out without drilling.
Maybe a small screw can be screwed in and then pull out the pin.

Did you try and get a price for a replacement mechanical key from AR ?
They should be able to supply the key only part of the Fob.

Exactly, it's a small roll pin. And it moves as I've checked with a screw driver. But I can't seem to pull it out and almost sure that's what is stoping the key to comes out.

I haven't asked for a replacement, so I don't know the price. I should ask that next time I visit my dealer but I would like to solve this myself...

Thanks Lances but that's not the problem. I want to take the key (the metal key) out from the top part you were talking about.

Prise and break!

Here it is: first, be careful where you put your feet. Second, there's the pin I was talking about.

Hi there Throttleman, having problems with a broken key for my 159 Ti - similar to your own issues. Am bidding for a replacement key on ebay just to get the metal part.

Have given up trying to get the spare key from the Alfa dealer that should have come with the car!!!

Any advice would be welcomed re removing the pin gratefully accepted.

Hi There. If you can get a small rivet or paper clip, you might be able to push the roll pin through in order to take it apart. Cut the shaft of the rivet or paper clip down, clamp it in some grips and push supporting the key body on a piece of wood or polystyrene.

Hello All, I've attached a pic of the deconstructed key end, I had broken ones, The clipped paper clip worked best for me, all so letting it rest in warm water helps to loosen things, just the blade part not the main body with the electronic components. push the paper clip down through the roll pin the clipped end will after a few attempts catch as you withdraw the paper clip and pull the roll clip out far enough to allow you to get hold. After that simple, I used the metal key blade to leaver the internal black plastic part away from the silver body. I posted a thread last night showing my replacement part I had it 3D printed By Shapeways 3D printing in the Netherlands,
The part can be bought if anyone wants one or two, just search on the Shaapeways website for Brera Spider or key cap and you'll find my shop with the part, its strong black flexible plastic, a different look, could be painted silver but I dont see the need it stron and durable and will last as long as the car.

I'm possibly being a bit disingenuous, but it doesn't look very good does it?

Anything straight out of the printer would need some finishing work the image is clearly the functional but raw product. I agree it would look better sanded and then painted if that's the preference.
However this has got me thinking how cool it would be if instead of the key ring end it coul have a glass end with the biscone emblem in it like on some of the Aston Martin keys.
Printing a cad design does open up some pretty cool possibilities.

i could have you one made in 18K gold but your key would be worth as much as your car.
Can be don in Stainless steel just cost a lot more even polished, Its only a key
And for the record Rewe thats a close up photo that picks out all detail of the material it smooths down within days, mine are great and they don't fall apart.

Apologies if I've been disrespectful. Kudos to you for having the initiative and drive to get this made and I'm sure you'll sell a few to people on here. You deserve to.

However, at 40ish each it would need to look better finished to tempt me. Sorry.
