I feel For You
The paint work on Alfas Alfas seems to be like soft icing sugar Alfa Red 289A, I have just sold my 59 spider back to the dealer I took a finiacial hit for peace of mind.
I had Venture shield fitted to the front of the alfa so no stones got through to the paint work, and it is almost invisible.
The rest of the car c**p. after just 3800 miles there was paint work pealing of an edge of the rear bumper, paint chipped of down both sides, Alfa without inspecting the car gave a go ahead for a £3000 side respray.
Problems listed below happened between Feb 2010 and October 2010 and the car was not used over either winter 2010 or 2011 so while the dealer blamed it on using the car in the sever winters we have had, he could not under stand that the car had been garaged over the winter!!
OK here we go faults from Feb 2010. Hole in leather seat base, replaced in May with wrong one took to October for Alfa to supply the correct one. Flaw in perspex wind block and paint falling of the wire on the front grill both sorted quickly, finish on leather gear surround flaking off, replaced quickly, eletric hood ripped of the rear silver plastic roll hoop cover, the just glued the hoop back on even though the fixing lugs were broken. repaired hood by stretching the knicker elastic that tensions the rear of the hood. paint peeling of the rear bumper. hood wont close taken to dealer for repair. Again hood jammed open replaced both motors. Seat joints between the base of the seat and the back all going rusty. Now we are in September reported the problems with the paint on the side of the car, instant approval for repair. The window squeeks every time it moves the geasr change/ clutch needed looking at. Alfa and the dealer kept saying but you have had only a few minor problems as if it was the norm!!
I used the car for 7 months last year and went back with it to dealers over a dozen times, build quality, they dont know the meaning of the word.
I tried to reject the car under the sales of goods act ,6 months later the dealer made me an offer for the car I am out of pocket by 1000's but so happy its gone. Went this route because I am moving to over 200 miles from the supplying dealer.
When I spoke to several Alfa Dealers they all knew about the problems with the paint the hood and the rusty seat frames, so why sell defective cars!!
I will never buy another Alfa.
Off to buy a Mazda MX5 ran one for 6 years without even a bulb blowing
Good luck to you all ,maybe Alfa will go the way Lancia went!!
