Spider 2.2 JTS or 2.4D -- advice needed / help!?
I'm thinking about moving on from my 8 year old 147 2.0 that i've had since new. I now fancy a change...
The new 1750TBi and 2.0D engines sound great but it will be hard to justify a new Spider at 30K...and currently there are some tempting deals out there for 1-3 year old Spiders.
I had my heart set on a 2.2 JTS because on paper this seems to be a reasonable balance between economy and performance, and the initial outlay is a lot less than a 2.4D.
However! I came over here to have a look thru posts/comments and i found 3 'stickys' that concern me:
2.2 JTS flat spot and no response at low revs
2.4D fuel consumption issues...
tyres wearing on the inside edge
Whilst I love the design of the Spider, i don't want to be caught with something that is difficult to drive and live with. I will be test driving a 2.2 JTS this week so the proof will be in the pudding, but I also have concerns that not all cars are the same.
Are 2009 cars -- 2.2 JTS & 2.4D -- immune to the above issues? Should I hold and wait for Alfa to release the new models at this point?
What else should I look out for on the current models -- 2.2JTS & 2.4D.
Any concerns with the timing belt? (on my 147 i have been changing every 3 years or 36K).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
