My Brera brakes down in the middle of nowhere!!
As it was a fantastic day up here I decided to go up the West of Scotland with my camera gear.
Filled up the car in the morning with unleaded at a BP station and drove about 140 miles all morning without a problem. Decide to stop into Oban to give myself enough fuel to get home (tank was about 1/3 full). Put in £20 worth of unleaded which gave me just over 1/2 a tank.
About 30 miles down the road, I pulled out of a junction and accelerated quite hard, the car pulled away fine. The next minute the engine revs begin to drop no matter what I'm doing with the accelerator pedal. I pull over and the engine drops to idle then begins to hunt between 0-700rpm before cutting out. I pulled the key out of the ignition then restarted the car, fired up no bother at all.
Thought everything was ok, maybe just a wee gremlin so drove about another 20 miles and pulled up for some more photographs. Got back to the car an hour later and started it. As soon as it started, it couldn't go above idle and it began to hunt again between 0-700rpm before cutting out. This happened a couple of times and now the engine is not wanting to turn over at all (ignition working ok).
I'm basically stuck in the middle of no where on a small track road! I phoned the Alfa roadside assistance who told me that my AA cover had expired in December (I had no idea, no courtesy letter) and the AA couldn't help me either as I was in the middle of nowhere with no patrols in the area. In the end found a local garage who recovered my car back to Glasgow for £250!!!!!
I towed it to Westerns Alfa in Glasgow this morning for it to be looked at..still awaiting the dreaded call!!
I thought that there might be a problem with the fuel I've put in at Oban (definately unleaded too!) or there is a fuel delivery fault, but no warning icons or messages.
Anyone had the same symptoms?
