So I went to fill up today, at the same station I always go to, went to the exact same pump to get V Power Diesel. Paid. Got back in the car, started her up, pulled out of the station, driving down the road when about 300 yards from the station the car starts to cough and judder. Coughing gets worse so I turn the radio off to listen to the engine and it sounds rough as a**eholes.
Then it hit me like a sledgehammer. I've just put V Power PETROL
in. And 42 litres of the stuff at that!
I immediately pulled on to the nearside kerb (On a bloody duel carriageway for f**ks sake
) and turned the engine off. I'd done about 1/2 a mile since filling up.
I phone the AA and get them to pick the car up. That will cost you £200 to get the fuel system drained. WHAT? So I told them to just come and tow the car back to my house and I'll sort the rest out.
At this point I thought I'd give my brother a ring as he has a garage and knows his stuff when it comes to cars. He said to cancel the AA he'll come and get me and tow the car back to his garage.
So to cut a long story short we got the car to his garage, got it up on the lift and drained the fuel system. Then took it to the Asda fuel station and brimmed it with diesel ( I double checked this time). It took a few attempts to start it up but as soon as it fired it ran fine. I've since took it for a good run and it's run fine since.
Hopefully I haven't damaged any seals and it will be fine. Anyone done the same and had any problems further down the line?
Just to be clear I only did about 1/2 mile before stopping the car and turning the engine off. There was no engine management lights on or messages.
