Thing is, if its a scratch, can it not be polished or rubbed out by a smart repairer?

There are a few on ebay this week:

I think you would have to contact the seller to get the material and colour spec. I have a feeling the first one is plastic, looks just like the one I took out of my 159 a while ago.

thick alluminium does not easly mark, take engine castings
motorbike fork legs etc, its quite durable.
common sence tells us that if it was "twice" as thick, it would be more resistable to marks etc, it is of very poor quality, it should be up to the task of having keys etc banged against it? my cayenne has artic silver alloy trim throughout the cabin, and you could not mark that with keys at all, the alfa is too thin/soft, period.
wait for older higher milage cars to surface...they will not wear well.
small price though as we love the car.
Someone talking sense, the aluminium is clearly not really suitable for purpose, I am extremely careful with my cars but the previous owner wasnt and mine was the best of the 6 I looked at (only done 30,000). It is annoying me so much I am going to have to either buy replacements or look at the carbon wrapping.

I've ended up with an extra spare brushed aluminium dash set to change the trim in my 159. It's on Ebay now if you are interested:
