It looks like I may finally get a Brera. I test drove a 2.2 today. It felt lovely but was a trfle unispiring in the aural dept. I'm not looking for something as loud as my supersprint GTV V6, but just a ittle grrrrrr.

Does anyone have the Mango 4 mod on theirs? Does it improve it in that dept?

Also, would I have to go to manchester, or does Autodelta do the same thing for 500 quid?

Thanks in advance Brera guys.

Hi Morte

Please read below what our Mod4 does to 2.2 & 3.2 engines:

Mangoletsi Performance Upgrade, Mod 4. Mangoletsi Designed Air induction kit with bespoke piping and Mangoletsi developed fuel pressure modification which adjusts the parameters at the injectors, increasing atomisation and improving burn, efficiency and power output. Fitted to 159, Brera & Spider 2.2JTS and 3.2V6's which now makes both these engines perform amazingly. The throttle response is also improved but the best bit that makes everyone smile is the noise output which is just fantastic and has been developed specifically to make these Alfa’s sound like a Ferrari or a Maserati. Oh yes this mod also fixes any flat spot or engine hesitation you may currently have.
Price £399 plus VAT.

Or have a read of this thread from page 11 onwards which is after everybody had thier mods fitted by us:

I've got it on my Ti and it's great.

95% cures the hesitation (98% when warmed up) and sounds great under load yet quiet when cruising:D

The Mango's new Ti demo was RR'd at 197bhp so a health increase over standard:thumbs:

Ruins economy though (only because you tend to spank it in the lower gears 'cause it sounds so goo:lol:)

I've got the Mango mod 4 with an Autodelta air filter. Not as loud as the fully blown Mango mod but it still makes a nice raspy noise from 3500rpm up

You might be better seeing Jano at Autodelta as they are much nearer to you.

Thanks all, I'm still unsure what to do, I think a Brera 2.2 could replace both our cars (we only really need one). Mrs Morte's 147 collezione drives me mental on bad roads, it's just not well damped at all, and my GTV V6 is great for days when you want to drive like a *******, but not great for a stop start commute.

We're also considering a mito 170, but I think I may be a little old for one of those!

So assuming we go for a 2.2, Mangos 4 sounds like the way to go. Unless we went for a 3.2 on LPG of course.

I watched AlfaStealth pull out of Mangos forecourt just after having the Mango mod 4 and was blown away with the difference between before and after!

The sound as he roared away was fantastic

........I'm sorry this is a long post but I have put together this collection of AlfaOwner.com members comments that have had one of our performance upgrades fitted at Mangoletsi:

“My 159 2.2 JTS has been upgraded and has a Mod 4 done by Mangos and I am very impressed so it comes highly recommended by me if anyone is considering it - The sound is immense when revving but still quiet whilst at idle which suits.”

“After I left Mangoletsi with Mod 4 (can I have M4 silver badge for my boot lid, please) I gingerly gave it a squirt or two on the M6. Computer told me that there are no consumption penalties for the extra power and no loss of refinement at constant speed. On the way down to Cheshire 33+mpg, onthe way home (uphill!)34+mpg.
I used some local roads today in the Lancashire Foothills around Darwen/Belmont/Tockholes and the engine note under load reminded me of my '80 Giulietta 2.0 with its two Dell'Orto twin chokes, essentially giving the GM engine more of an Alfa character.
Thanks again for such an interesting and productive afternoon yesterday. I can't believe how efficient you boys were.

“Alfa 159Ti 3.2V6
I popped into Mangos today to get a rattling noise removed from the engine bay and drove away an hour later with an incredible roar from my exhaust pipes!
John took me out to identify the source of the rattling during which I mentioned that the 159's engine seems a bit lazy for a 3.2... "Ah! There’s something I can do about that" he says. We took out a Brera S which had the induction and fuel-pressure modification to demonstrate what could be done. I'm not one for unnecessary three-letter acronyms but OMG!
Mangoletsi Performance Upgrade, Mod 4 does exactly what it says on the tin. Acceleration appears to be sharper and the noise at high revs is exactly what a V6 should sound like. My 159 has now been washed, filled with V-Power and will be spending most of the afternoon on the roads of Cheshire & Derbyshire! flat spot is sorted too! Very happy.”

“Well I’ve just got back from Mangos and have two words to say!!! Totally transformed. Power and more importantly the delivery of power is fantastic, and I can fully recommend to anyone reading this thread just what a few pounds out the piggy bank can do to give you the Alfa Romeo you always wanted!
I had the chance to drive the demo 2.4 JTDM and 3.2 V6, and although the V6 sounded awesome at full chat, the diesel wins the day for me, now she's running how she should be!
I'd like to thank Ken and John for being absolute gentlemen and the fantastic service I was given today by both of you! But to be honest the whole team were fantastic! Thanks guys I’m a Mangoletsi convert now and will definitely be back for the Brake upgrade I talked about with John and my first service Cheers guys I’m a VERY happy customer.”

“The first smile came just as I pulled away on the test drive with Matt and then......................they just kept coming. THIS is how it should have been from the beginning. The power delivery, the sound, oh boy the sound I can't put it into words to say how happy I am. The journey home was something else A big thank you to John and Matt and indeed the whole team which where total professional and very welcoming. I also got a great deal on a pair of illuminated sill plates. Brilliant day well worth the travel. If you have a 2.2 you really should give it the Mango treatment. So again thank you all at Mangoletsi.”

“4 words... I need better brakes! Very happy with the results, just how it should have been from the start. Cheers to all the team at Mango's!”

“Really good to see a garage full of excited owners and equally as excited salesmen and techi's”

“Personally i can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to go and get their Alfa Romeo upgraded - massive difference for really very little outlay.”

“The V6 Brera - what a lovely refined rasp over a standard V6 - if i had one i wouldn’t be able to resist the mods for the noise - the sound was lovely but again - not too much.... just right”

“The engine is so smooth NO hesitation at all, it now feels if someone has taken the brakes off it’s so lively, and did I mention the sound. Trust me get there and get it done.”

“Just back from the Mangoletsi Performance weekend............ John really knows his stuff, very impressed, had a test in the mod 4 3.2 V6s then had mine done, OMG. What also pleased me is that at "normal" road speed there is no noticeable difference to the exhaust sound which I prefer but once at 4k rpm it sounds like it should have from the factory. Motorway speeds again no worse than before, performance first impressions are that the throttle pick up is better not a tremendous amount but certainly noticeable, will have a better idea over the next week or so with normal work driving, MPG perhaps too early to tell....
Overall Mangoletsi did a fantastic job from start to finish, loads of cars to look at & test, parts guys on hand as well as technical and sales, also lots of freebie drinks and food. Had a good chat with John, Craig & Julian the GM top blokes, a real credit to the dealer network well worth a visit.”

“Very good event, had a drive of the MiTo M 170 and loved the way it delivered the power a few extra HP but delivered much more nicely, with the induction kit I liked how it sounded I suspect its a love hate thing but then that’s true of the MiTo anyway so what the heck! Also I am tempted by the lowering springs as it makes the car sit nicely and also felt like it improved the turn in but the ride still felt like the regular MiTo which is fairly hard anyway. Anyhow thanks to Ken and John for their time I will be going along in September to have the turbo mod and all been well the induction and the springs too.”

“The 3.2V6 - what an amazing transformation. It now sounds and drives like you feel it should have done in the first place - brilliant, and well worth the Mangoletsi upgrade. The big surprise for me though was the 2.2 - I didn't get to drive this as it wasn’t on my 'want' list so I didn't notice it until late in the day but I heard it running a couple of times - on tick over the sound is fantastic, hard to believe it was 'only' a 2.2 - and watching it power away up the road it just gets better. The 2.2 with this upgrade is now firmly on my list, the mod makes it very appealing and the double bonus is I will be able to afford one sooner and it will be cheaper to run. I heard that somebody else on the day went in with an interest in the 3.2 and having driven both, ordered the 2.2 which speaks volumes.”

“My 159 is booked in this Thursday and I can't wait having read the feedback on the 2.2 JTS!”

“Good to meet a few AOers in real life today. John, Julian, Ken, Craig, Ben & Matt are all top people. I was really impressed by the Brera 3.2V6. The modified 2.2, even with just 60 miles on it was great, really very impressed. John - you so know your stuff, you were so inspiring that I've booked my car in for a load of warranty work that's well overdue. BIG thanks to all at Mango's for a great morning”

“I’ve always wanted a bit more performance but the straight Autodelta re-map didn’t seem that cost effective for me bearing in mind I have no hesitation issues, so the chance to try out Mango’s modifications before deciding was ideal.
I think my mind was made up even before the test drive though because just hearing the sound of a 2.2 as it pulled away was almost enough to convince me. The test drive was superb with noticeably more power at the bottom end, which remained constant through the revs. Tried both of the Brera S's both excellent but the 2.2 was the better drive for me.
Booked mine in for an early service and to get the mods done at the same time.”

“I took my V6 Brera from North London to Cheshire on Saturday to check out the mods on offer. I was met and looked after by John who is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He happily advised me on a couple of issues with my car (which my local dealer claims not to exist...) before showing me the modified Brera SV6, which on driving I was naturally blown-away by and simply had to have the same upgrade (Mod 4) performed on my car.
I've had a cold for the last part of the week, so kept socialising to a bit of a minimum (also, my father kindly accompanied me on the journey and I didn't want to leave him on his own too much!). The set-up in place at Mangoletsi is terrific and listening to the variety of screams from the cars taking off down the road was a joy I only wish they were more local!
I think I can summarise the result by saying that the drive home was significantly more fun than the drive there I'm astonished by the transformation! The throttle response is right there (arguably where it should always have been), and it pulls from low-revs in all gears. However, what I am most impressed with is the sound. It's gorgeous! It is fair to say that I am now addicted to the sound of my car! As I said, I was somewhat under the weather yesterday, but I had a vast grin on my face all the way home, and because of this I've determined that the sound of a Mangoletsi-modified V6 over 4,000 rpm is a cure for the common cold.
Thanks John and the guys at Mangoletsi for a truly superb service, a great day out. Anyone in the South who visits Mangoletsi for a performance upgrade will be thankful for a nice long drive home to enjoy the results.”

“I can’t recommend it enough to people, just for the baby Ferrari sound alone!
Not entirely scientific, but I managed to get an extra 3mpg average overall on the way home too.
Really good day, Thanks to all at Mangos and for organising it all. Service and showroom etc was fantastic. Even managed to order some mudflaps (with 20% discount) too!
8C was cool; it’s good the owner was willing to show it too.
Thanks everyone.”

“BIG thanks to all the team at Mangos - A perfect example to Alfa on how all their dealerships should be!”

“I had Mod 4 and induction fitted to my 2.2 and it has transformed it into the car I always wanted it to be. Couldn't believe it was my car producing such an amazing deep growl when it was taken out for a test after fitting. The throttle response is much improved, almost makes the car feel lighter. On the motorway home I definitely noticed a bit more oomph when putting my foot down - which I did ALOT - that noise is just incredible over 4000 rpm. As an added bonus I recorded a fuel saving of around 4mpg. In short there is now nothing negative for me about Brera ownership- all the niggling doubts about the hesitation have been removed.”

“If you own a 2.2 you HAVE to get this mod on your car -you won't be disappointed”

“Top marks to the guys at Mango's - I was there Saturday afternoon and tested a few of the modified cars - very impressed with all of them particularly the induction roar on the 3.2 Brera s once it hit 6000rpm”

“Did anyone else drive the 147 Ducati Corse with the 205bhp JTDm engine? My god that was impressive, in a smallish, light car, that engine had some MASSIVE shove, and the re-engineered engine note was simply phenomenal - I can honestly say it's the only diesel engine I’ve ever driven that sounds like a petrol engine at full chat. John, I doff my cap to you sir”

“Just been out for another blast around the country lanes - fantastic. The 2.2 sounds brilliant following this work and the car drives so much better. Could not rate this mod highly enough, worth every penny.”

“I normally get the train to work but just had to drive in today, first time I’ve ever enjoyed a commute into Birmingham – thank you Mangoletsi”
“Thank you so much to the guys at Mangos!
I drove the Brera 2.4M!!! Well well well what a beastie! The torque on boost is just flipping lovely! The car has a much better response range; it's really good between 2000 to 4000. It's utterly transformed the 2.4 IMO! And the one I drove wasn't even run in - all I can say is if you have a 2.4, get to Mangos ASAP for upgrade! Worth every penny.”

“Now the 2.2 - I only got the induction done, not the injection mod. Still, what a deep roar under load! The power is up, particularly in the mid to high range. The high end is transformed, it just pulls and pulls and pulls at fast motorway speeds, it doesn't feel like it's fighting itself anymore, and even better the MPGs are significantly up! On a very fast run to Mangos (not sparing any horses) I got 24.9, on the way back driving slower due to traffic in some places I got 28.3!! If the traffic had been clear I still would have managed 27 I think. That's about 10%. Awesome.”

“The car has the lightness and pull off the line of a good Golf Gti in town, and the effortless high speed acceleration of a light GTV twinnie - but with more power and torque throughout the range and a big ROAR!! 2.2 drivers, GO GET THIS MOD!!! I am really pleased I drove a 400 mile round trip just for the induction.”

“I turned up on Sunday afternoon and was instantly acknowledged by Craig having popped in on two previous occasions, I was actually encouraged to take a test drive (and did three on the day), happy and enthusiastic staff, but more importantly knowledgeable about the product they sell, and if they couldn't answer your question they offered you a coffee while they found somebody that could. Best of all the product lives up to the promises from what I have seen. Some will say, with some justification that they are just trying to sell cars. Well I'm not easily impressed, but Mangoletsi didn't even try to impress - they just did.”

“As they say in the TV ads, Modifica 4 has changed my Life!

No hesitation, smoother pickup, better throttle response, more torque and better fuel consumption.

Manchester area/Birmingham, one way, fill up £32. After Modifica 4 Portsmouth one way fill up £39.82 an extra 150miles further. In case you think that I was on an economy drive, no is the answer. Motorway outside lane speeds, current consumption figs 38-45mpg, roadwork’s, rush-hour hold ups on motorway and a windows down full throttle pull away from toll booth. What a glorious sound that was, no matter the fuel consumption figs dropped like a stone.

Modifica 4, is it worth it well if one wants to turn a hesitant starter into a chomping at the bit fire breathing thoroughbred worthy of its Alfa Romeo heritage, then YES is the answer and bring a bigger smile to your face”

Ken, as you're aware,on Monday 28th September I travelled from Southampton to have the Air Induction Kit fitted to my Spider 2.2 jts. The service I received from John the Senior Technician and the service staff was superb,I would also like to mention the welcoming, friendly and enthusiastic nature of the showroom staff. It was so refreshing. The Spider has been transformed in to the car it should have been when it left the factory and is now a joy to drive, the research and development by Mangoletsi has been a triumph.
Many thanks

We drove up to Mangos yesterday and had the Mod3 done on our 147 Ducati - Great place, friendly staff much caffeine (didn’t need it once driving her)
She was quick before, but is now seriously quick I’m also sure driving back today the average mpg has improved as well
Sorry didn’t get the chance to meet you John but we were told you were very busy, and that they only let you out on the weekends.
All in all these guys are a credit to our much loved Marque.........keep up the good work

Wow – the car now has a whole new lease of life for me following the mod. (no more lusting after the TBI) Once again it is a screaming ALFA and I’m redlining it everywhere I go as the noise is now so intoxicating. I was worried that I may turn my executive express into a boy racer mobil but can honestly say that it’s just right. Nice and quiet when your cruising or pootling in traffic but a screaming pure blooded ALFA when you press the loud peddle. After 3 days it’s too early to confirm if it’s totally cured the hesitation issue but it has so far, the car seems much more responsive on the throttle and I’d like to say fuel economy has improved but it hasn’t as I keep thrashing the car everywhere – and I don’t care. Fuel economy can go hang now the cars so much fun again.

Anyway praise where due and Mangos have come up with a stonker here. John Ferrari wants a gold medal for dreaming this up. Can only suggest that all 2.2 owners who are lacking that bit of sparkle they miss from the old 156 engines or are fed up with kangarooing down the road that you get yourself to Mangos and get the mod done. (Yes I know Alfa should fix it but let’s be honest- they haven’t and they won’t EVER!) So swallow your principles and pay for the mod, believe me it’s worth it to get back that ALFA soul.

Just thought I'd report back after my recent Euro Trip with AO.
I drove almost 3000 miles, the car performed magnificently! We did mountain hairpins and long straight motorways.
The sound in the tunnels was amazing and I'm thinking of doing a 'Tunnel Run' in London next month!
I was taught how to really drive my car by some Alfa experts too!
The Mod 4 certainly is paying dividends!!
Thanks again.

I'm happy to report John at Mangos works the same magic on the 3.2 V6 engine.
Was up there pursueding my wife to buy a MiTo - which took some time and effort, before she agrred) so thought I'd have the Mod 4 done to my Brera while we were prising the decision out - They should have given me a slice of the commission! The Brera always sang along, but now it's like you have the London symphony orchestra backing Pavarotti under the bonnet.
Can't recommend the option enough.

...............I told you it was long.

One of the great comments in the mango posts is mine. I agree with Tony and ALFA refusing to fix it really annoyed me but Im glad i stumped up the cash in the end. Anyway ive had it a good few months now and still happy with the decision. A few anwers to a few questions posed earlier:
1)Yes i told my insurance. You would probably never spot it but i didnt want to take the risk. For me it meant about an extra £50 on my annual premium but others on here have had a nasty shock!
2) The sound is still great , really does make the car feel all old school ALFA again - 10/10.
3) Tad more power and tad more responsive - dont expect miracles but you can tell the difference.
4) It has almost (80%)cured the hesitation - most days its totally gone but in recent cold spell I still had the odd bunny hop though not as bad as before.
5) Fule economy - now I can check it on a normal drive there is very little if any difference. 2.2 is a thristy engine and it still is.
6) Beware warranty issues - my local dealer still insisist that ARUK will use it as an excuse to walk away from a repair. Really annoying when you pay your cash to sort their issues :mad:WAS worth it for me as car was just over 2 years old so seemed like a safe bet.
ALl in all then i would still recommend, most painful bit was the trip up to Mangos and waiting around but the trip back was all fun :)

Hi Morte,

yes Mod 4 does make the car sound better in the aural department. There's one or two people who don't like the sound, but most of us seem to like it a lot. If you've had exhaust mods and stuff before, I doubt you'd regard the Mod 4 as too loud. It definitely adds a lot or aural character without being OTT.

Throttle response is nicer too - bhp goes up as well.

Great mod but I do think that it is important to put it into perspective. I'm chuffed to bits with the results on my 2.2 but I do also believe that I'd struggle to get any official (Alfa) support in the event of engine probs. This risk shouldn't be discounted when considering the mod.

#31 ·
Maybe I'm asking too much for Alfa to supply an engine that runs correctly?:):), and I've noticed that Mango's are advertising on these forums as much as they can get away with, and I know from experience that they are not much better than any other dealer.

#36 ·
Well, booked mine in for 1pm tomorrow.

Shame about the 5 hour drive there though!
Tell John to pull his finger out an get it done quickly, and take less *** breaks, as you want the best part of the day to enjoy it, and not sat in the showroom drinking coffee! :p

(He's sooo gonna kick my *** for that :p)

Just a couple of points

I'm one of those fortunate enough to say I've never ever experienced any hesitation issue, so for me if I'm absolutely honest, Mod 4 was solely about getting the car to sound like an Alfa should and any additional performance was just a bonus. Yes it should have sounded and performed like that from day one but if it had I’d have probably just got used to it. After three years though, my feelings for the car were wearing thin but Mod4 brought a smile back to my face and I found myself going for drives again just for the shear pleasure of it.

As for Mangos using the forum to promote this mod, I don't have any issues with that because their product is clearly no snake oil solution and has made a whole lot of people happy. Let's face it, there are some out there that wouldn't dare show their faces on a public forum for fear of backlash but here it seems like every ones been extremely pleased with the results.

Bill :)
