Dont want to be Mr doom and gloom but, I claimed through my insurance for an accident clearly not my fault and until it was settled I had to pay my excess and they bumped my insurance up ( 3 times the annual premium ) and they would not budge until the other party eventually admitted liability and his insurance paid out, only then did I get back my excess and got my premiums reduced, what a ball ache it all was, insurance claim = pain no matter who is to blame.
I have to agree, when I was hit up the back, my insurers produced 2 claims (one for front damage (where I was liable) and one for rear damage (where the person that 1st hit me was liable).
My car was written off after a 2 month investigation, I was paid out (-excess and the remainder of the year's premium). Which left me with £1000 less than I'd paid to buy a replacement car, to the same value of the one I'd lost.
On top of that (although my NCB is protected, I'm 1 fault claim away from losing it) my premium went up and I had to pay the excess for the rear impact as the driver was uninsured, although I'm assured I will get that back when the my insurers find someone to claim it off.
That was over two years ago so I'm not holding my breath.
Hope yours goes a lot smoother than mine..don't get me started on the courtesy car debarcle I had as well....
