I've never had any problems with mine until last Tuesday, the morning I was taking it over to the bodyshop. I left it running for 10 minutes or so to defrost (it was -12.5) but when I went to drive off the steering was mega-heavy, as in 'no power-assistance' heavy. At first, I put it down to the extreme cold, but it didn't improve during the 10 mile journey. In fact it got worse, giving the impression that there was some sort of 'ratchet' within the steering mechanism as I could only turn the wheel in a series of jerky movements - that was fun on the compacted snow and ice of the untreated roads,
When I got back home, I was greeted by a large pink (
) oily stain in the snow beneath where the front of the car had been, so I can only assume that this was power-steering fluid - and the wrong power-steering fluid at that,
. So I guess that it's going to be "Pick it up from bodyshop and go straight to dealer - do not pass Go, do not collect £200",
. Looks like the £420 for the 4th year warranty is paying-off as we're only 10 weeks in and it's already had a new EGR valve and now a new rack would seem to be the order of the day.
