I've been looking a car for a relation for around the £10 - £11k mark. Have ruled out most of the premium badges such as BMW / Mercedes as to get a fresh one of those you really need to spend £15k or thereabouts.
To be honest the 159 seems to be the only premium brand that falls within this range (plus it's lovely). Have been looking at 2007 ones with 60 - 80k on them (lusso models). Just a little concerned about mileage.
Is £10k too much to be paying for an '07 159 1.9jtdm with 70 - 80k on the clock? I was reading through one of the topics and a lot of people had posted managing to do 6 - 10k with no problems. (surely its not much to expect a newish car to be able to whack 100k - 150k on it now with very little problems?) I wouldn't mind if it was for myself but I would hate to advise someone to go for a car that is going to give constant problems. They have left it with me to get them a car - i've been looking at peugeot 407s which i know have electrical niggles but the HDI units are a proven lump and there are lots of folk locally that can work on them easily (we've an old 406 in the household with 148k on it still on original radiator, starter, altenator head gasket etc.etc. going like a clock)
It's for a family, needs to be the sportwagon, she loves the look of it and rightly so just my concerns are about the durability of the car itself.
Am I mad to get her a 159? should i stick to the more common stuff? any help would be greatly appreciated dudes.
Also, if I purchase one still covered under the new car warranty (i assume this is 3 years unlimited mileage), is it a very comprehensive warranty? (ie squeaks and rattles are covered?)
What other things should I look for? apart from accident damage which was evident on the first one I looked at. (door bolts had been adjusted, boot lid slightly off, rear bumper malfitted, headlamp bracket broken) - can not one car dealer anywhere in the mainland just be honest and describe the car how it is?? i'll be travelling from N.Ireland and i get the feeling they all see me as "oh great, we'll tell him car is fantastic because when he lands he'll be stuck and have to buy it" which i won't - air travel is still cheap! Most of the stuff I've scrutinised is not all it originally makes out to be.
Or would anyone have a good one for sale? make my life easier?
Cheers in advance for any advice!
